We get a new member maybe once or twice a month, but they never really amount to anything. In the past year, I've seen quite a few people come and go, mainly people I don't even know. Most of the people who come here, either make an account and never appear again, or get on every so often, but neither contribute or do anything even remotely useful, much less interact with the forum's community (Hey, I atleast talk and TRY to do useful things..). Which probably means they either leech the forum and get nice stuff for free and leave. (NOT jumping to conclusions, just stating some things I've seen happen in plenty of other forums like this)

So far, this forum's dead, except with members who've been here for nearly 1 to +3 years who still mess around. I like messing around. It's nice. Beats working. Easygoing forum > Serious workaholic forum.
But yeah, at this rate, the forum may or may not die. Well, every body part except the spam department, of course<3.

Did you take a moment to think for a moment before you posted this...

everyone is pretty bogged down with school/job corps, and they all have less free time than they did over the summer. (myself for example) Instead of staying up til 2 every night working on ROM Hacks/Sprites, and then getting up at 11 and working on it for another 2 hours before going out and coming back home at 11pm and doing the same thing every night, I have to be at school til 3 and then do homework. Much less time to work on stuff.

It's not like this forum really had a huge member base, most of the people that were working on stuff are still here. With the Christmas season coming I bet more people will have time to do stuff.

(just my two cents)

I like the forum, I've just been busy as hell these past couple weeks. As soon as I get some
time to work on my FEXP game I'll start posting more stuff hopefully.

And I'm clearly not an expert on Forums, but among the ones I use (FE Cafe and Immortal Sword)
this one's the most active. Immortal Sword is a ghost town, but I guess that's
partially due to Yeti moving to FE Cafe. But even FE Cafe is really slow.

I dunno, I like this forum and I'll keep posting for sure.

Joking aside, I don't think this forum is dead. The active group of members on this site is pretty big and some of the newest members post every once in a while in the Art or FEXP forums.

The General Discussion forum is rather inactive except for the spam and counting threads. But most of the stuff that can be discussed in the General Discussion forum is always discussed in the chatbox.

=_= Well the main draw of this forum publicly is that it offers FEXP help, and as is apparent, there's not vast amounts of work being done to improve it right now. I can bet to you that some large percent of the people joining are interested solely in the FEXP side of things, since that is how Klok has advertised it.

That doesn't make this forum dead, though, that's just a dumb thing to say frankly. Sorry. Just because it's a small community of people doesn't mean that there's some impending doom, we're all buddies and I can't see any point in the future where I'll have no reason to check back here.

Fuzz is right about all that too, we're all busy right now. That said though, when has this forum ever been notably more active? I've been here since February and it's more or less always been like this.

True, true. But I never said it WOULD die, nor did I say anything needed to change. I was merely stating something. There's no reason to be politically correct , my children.

Nothing should be taken THAT seriously on this forum. <3

I completely forgot to talk about the chatbox actually. The chatbox is ,like Rome said, where all of the general discussion stuff happens. We talk about everything there really. And people like Mew and Yoshi don't really update an art/sprite thread here, they just share links to new stuff to who ever is in the chat box, and then get/give critique through that as well.

On top of that, we have all of the Team Phoenix projects in the works (even if progress is slow to on hold) as well as (even though the progress is slow on them) Xiao Emblem, TRTR, Felix's Project (when it comes out), Death or Glory and then 2 projects in the work from myself. So I'd this forum is actually pretty damn lively.

You ninja'd me but I'm still posting it.

We are a serious forum when we need to be. Just because our most active topic ever is the spam one, doesn't mean we aren't serious. If someone needs help with something, 99% of the time we'd give a serious response. (Except me.)

hi.

Even with people being busy, I think what rin was trying to say is there are people coming in and registering and not even taking 2-3 seconds to type a hello in the introductions. We're mostly the oldie people who've been a part of this community for a while, even with all the newbs joining, because no one wants to post.

Even though we do offer FEXP help, there aren't too many of these folks actually asking for help. It's like they're registering just to register. I can understand this to some extent, but when at least half of our population is silent, there's something wrong there. (Only 26 out of 70 people have more than ten posts; 32 have 5+ posts; and 27 have never posted even once) I think we need some more motivation to post if we plan on being a public forum. If not, then why not just close down registrations?

I do have to say this, I think some of these dormant members should at least poke their head in and say hi every once in a while (like Rin).

It doesn't really matter. I've never aspired to make this community large and popular, I'm quite comfortable with people here saying hi, chatting on the chatbox, throwing some bullshit around, and having a fun time. I've been a member of over a hundred forums (Obviously not active on most of those, but a member nonetheless) and I can tell you that our forum is about the perfect size.

Think about this. How much fun is it to post on Serenes Forest? Not that fun. You see, they have so many members, good and shitty, that they need to enact strict regulations on the whole forum so that everyone has an "equal shake" but then they also suffer from abominable bias and favoritism. Mods are exalted, everyone else is unimportant, that should be their motto.

How about FEU/SoS? A huge forum also, but unlike SF they suffered from too lax regulations, driving away contributing members and attracting trolls. Eventually, after suffering from a lack of any decent content, they went under. I miss SoS, but it wasn't really that fun.

We have a great memberbase consisting entirely of nice people who get along with each other, and we do have one unique attraction, namely FEXP. Also there's all my scattered projects too, prime's hack, yoshi and mew's art, basically a large variety of interesting combinations on one site, and better yet, no vicious trolling or harsh asinine rules.

Being big and active isn't the key. Being friendly and having a good time, that's what I aspire for this site to be.

Also, Jesse, you forget that Yeti has 10x the members we do and 1% of the activity. We're pretty freaking active, considering our size x]

I was not saying we as a whole are inactive. I'm saying we have too many inactive members. Less than half of us (32-33 out of 70) have 5+ posts. A much smaller number are actually regular/frequent.

Do you honestly expect everyone who joins the forum to make a post? Let alone 10+ posts. Statistics I've gathered from all the forums I frequent show that less than 10% of a forums population even post once, let alone regularly. Yeah, SF has 100+ active members a day and maybe even 500 active members a month, but they also have over 20,000 members registered on their site (Too lazy to check the number) therefore they also have a tiny miniscule number of active members compared to their base.

It's not a big deal, really.

This place is a good site. We don't try to really draw people in, because it really isn't that important. If somebody really wants to, they'll say hello. For my example, I shall use...Magix.

We know he hasn't had the best start, but once he chilled out a bit, he's started to be relatively easy to be around. For me, anyway. And, his art is good, his music is good...

Besides, this site was first made as a last resort when Yeti found the old site, I think. It was made for the people of the old site, I think. I dunno, I know nothing.

Point is, we aren't really trying to attract new members. The new members that show up are mostly just here because they probably think there'll be a better version of FEXP and uberperfect tutorials, completely finished and in-depth. Then we hit them in the gut with the truth. Repeatedly.

Yeah magix is quite fine now. A short ban and he became a fine and upstanding member of the community.

Should he revert though, I have a ticket to a train that will teach him some... concentration.

Anything but that.

In all seriousness, it need not be said but shall be said anyway: I doubt this forum will go dead. Yeah people grow and get super busy over the course of a few years, but everyone wants their taste of fun every now and then and thus, as long as the active people of this forum enjoy each others company and contribution, it won't die.

Yay I'm exemplary

Sooo...
do we close this thread now?

It seems to have covered its purpose and I don't think we need it turning into another spam topic.
