UPDATE 2013

I recently got Finale 2012 so music quality should be better.

There are one of two types of assignments I can take:

1) Real Time

- Lower quality, background static may be a problem but editing software can nullify it
- More wide range of sound
- More percussive
- Can generally sound more heroic or more peaceful

2) Finale

- Super high quality, no background static at all
- Many voices at the same time, usually for orchestral or maybe SFX if i can get it to work
- Got beats and stuff..
- Can generally sound more authentic and professional

So, just make sure to include:

- A musical storyline: what it'll be the background for

- A theme: what it's supposed to make listeners feel

- Title: another listener perception thing

Ah. I still remember that lol. It's only about five chords long.,, to improve that is to change it.

Still, that song was awesome, and I think you should update it.

Back to Finale lol. Transposing a couple songs and transcribing Racketeers to a Woodwind-String combo since I didn't learn brass yet.

So I failed at Racketeers, but right now I'm working on what I think sounds pretty cool so far. It starts out with some bells and glockenspiel with a simple tune with a catchy rhythm:

1 + 2 + 3 - 4 +

Where the (1,2,3,4) are the beats, the + simply is the subidivision, and the - is a rest)

sometimes:

1 - 2 + - - 4 +

Which sounds also equally catchy.

String pizzicato supports the beginning melody, a light harmony created by two violin sections.

Then, a ballad-style drum beat comes in to support the melody of the glockenspiel, as well as a nice harmony created by the two violins and a cello pizzicato to create a nice bass-guitar effect.

To transition into the real stuff, however, the glockenspiel begins the basic theme of the entire song, a simple progression between chords:

G Minor -> E flat Major supported by a C Minor Chord -> C Minor -> C Suspension

-> D Dominant -> G Minor

When you hear it it sounds much better.

Then, the glockenspiel starts a question-answer sequence and results in a climb to a loud and grand entrance of the main theme through a nice chromatic jumble of all the string sections.

The main theme is no longer the glockenspiel, but instead a heroic Horn (which I found out is the leading tone in TSFH piece "Dragon Rider" so you'll kinda get what sort of heroism I'm trying to get here).

A driving beat by the drums and a nice steady rain of eighth notes from the cello and double bass will give this quite a feel.

Wish me luck!

Enjoy the preview. If you liked it I'll either upload a longer one or simply upload the full version on youtube when its done.

Scratch preview stuff, I've put it away for quite a while now...but here's another preview that's longer and much more potent on giving what i hope is a heroic impression.

I'm gonna throw up a poll about what genre it would seem to be in... but here it is.
Have at it.

Just as a side note and reference, here are all the instruments I used:

Drum Set
Glockenspiel
French Horn
Violin I
Violin Ii
Viola
Cello
String Bass

So if it sounds like there's a acoustic or electric bass in the music, it means I did a good job haha

Whelp. The horn doesn't come in until the second section. The melody is taken over by the strings for a bit, which I repetitively emphasize through a"follow the leader" sequence of the glockenspiel and the strings.

I put it in dropbox, root folder. Shit's pretty epic.

Edit:

If I had to describe this song, I would call it a story. That's the best way to describe it.

Part one is childhood. This tells the story of a young boy as he plays happily in the meadow.

Part 2 is young adult. The boy gets a call, a call to battle. Rousing up his courage, he heads off towards an unknown future.

Part 3 is the battle. Journeying with his comrades, he fights and gains heroic status among his countrymen.

Part 4: The battle is over. He is weary and tired. Now he begins the long journe home... but what awaits him at the end? Only time will tell...

Perhaps a child of his own, that will tell his own story.

Wait...how did you fail at Racketeers? It's mostly melody (with very little extra in the background) and it's so easy to figure out. Starts on C. XP

Oh, and your song lacks bass. That angers me.

Brass ? It's got a horn dude haha. Its also got percussion so that gives me an excuse to try this out with our school orchestra

If you're actually referring to bass though, I'll turn it up, there actually is bass (string and cello) that sounds pretty "acoustic-bass"-like. Btw please leave feedback while I work on the Suspense Theme for Klok haha I need to know what's good and what needs work before I release the full version

The end is in sight! The G Minor Song is nearly finished; it gets a nice little twist near the end that switches it into D Minor and ends with a nice repetitive, march-like sequence that makes as a nice climax and resolution.

In the meantime, Klok, the Suspense Theme is in D Minor or something... it will sound really creepy and the melody will be in the bass, a common trait among many suspenseful music including the Doom Suspense Redux.

I can play Racketeers anytime on the piano... I said I failed was because I never really had the motivation to finish it XP

The song is officially complete! It sounds absolutely epic, so be sure to put it on your ipod playlist or whatever you have to listen to music with Very Happy

It gets really fast at the end to add to excitement, and i might alter the tempo even after its been fully completed before I upload it to youtube.

The Suspense Theme is under way about now as well

As I thought... I exhausted a whole lot of creative imagination on that G Minor piece that I'm stumped in terms of the Suspense thing. I'll keep listening to the Doom thing, though, it'll be done before summer break ends for sure.

You don't need to make more than two posts, dude. Just edit the last one with an edit button. Also, use the quote button when speaking to a specific button or type their whole reply out like I do.

The Darkblade Awakening or what's his name's theme is complete. I'm not sure if it's what you were going for, Klok, but I threw whatever melody that the preview had into my version and added a harp for a spooky effect. The drum...although the transition in and out isn't as smooth as I expected it to, I hope your dialogue and conversations and CGC or whatever you called it will be good enough so that the player can't tell. I looped it twice to show that the song can be looped, so enjoy. It will be posted in a few minutes/ 1 or so hour from this post because the converter is 1) slow as hell and 2) the wav file, as you know, is enormous.

Sorry if that was a wall of text, but I don't want to edit this post nor make a second one. So.
