Figured I'd make a thread as a nice organized way of getting feedback on WIP CGs for FEPS, among other things.


Progress for a CG of a patrolling archer shooting at Joeda and his brother. Mostly need to finish the background now--and they're faceless on purpose, the image is going to be resized to be quite a bit smaller when it's done so you shouldn't be able to tell in-game.



And now for my first sprites eveeer...and a creepy mug.
If there are any good tutorials/resources out there for doing this more effectively then I'm all for it. It's hard to mix all of the sprites together without either having them look too much like one character or having them look just plain silly.



Not sure how/why the animation has those white spots, on top of not knowing how to pace the frames so she's kinda overly jumpy and awkward looking. I'm probably committing a horrible spriting crime by stealing Lyn's body.

Crit for the CG:
The archer's arrow doesn't have a head, it's currently just a thin pointy stick. Don't forget to add a head to the arrow.

I like the wyverns a lot, you did a good job there.

Something about them though makes the wyverns look like they're just superimposed on the background, not really "in the sky". Maybe it's shading or something.

Hopefully you'll be adding grass and flowers and stuff to the ground?

The archer guy looks manly and awesome. I like it a lot.

The clouds look really rounded, but I suppose they'll be significantly better looking once resized.

The sun looks a bit dull, maybe just a tad brighter?


As for the battle sprite...
The reason it looks jumpy is because you need to hold the upper frame for just a split second longer, such a quick hop isn't too realistic. Like, if you hop into the air, do you get pulled back to the ground by Earth gravity, or by Jupiter gravity? And uh, stealing Lyn's body ain't a crime. Probably woulda taken me a while to notice that anyway cuz you did such a great job recoloring.

Still looks too quick, but I'm using photoshop to animate and unfortunately the way its set up, it doesn't allow you to customize the frame time by much. You can have no delay, 0.1 seconds, 0.2 seconds, 0.5 seconds and above, the 'upper' frame now being delayed by 0.2 seconds, which doesn't seem like enough, but 0.5 is too much. Dang thing, I just want 0.3. It does help a lot though, thanks for the crit on the sprites, I think it looks a lot better at this speed. Very Happy

As for the CG, yeah I actually have been putting off drawing the arrow because it's hard to make straight lines with the tablet, it will happen though. As for the wyverns looking kind of 'stuck on' I'm still messing around to fix that, I think it may be because they're so dark and crisp. I'm still not 100% on how wyvern would look flying over a setting sun, light/shadow-wise, because unfortunately wyverns do not exist.



That's the current image sized down, so yeah, the clouds look like crap and don't look better small lol, I'm still working on them. And yesh I'm going to add -something- to the bottom, maybe grass and bushes but I'm not sure yet.

After mew made some edits, I threw a lens flare on. (Flareon, lololol) It's still not complete, but it's getting closer.

The bowstring looks pretty loose. Normally, bowstrings have a lot of tension to propel the arrow a good distance.

Amazing work otherwise.

Thanks a lot guys, and yeah, Prime's right tbh, drawing lines by hand with a tablet is really difficult, if I had used the line tool there would be no lack of apparent tension. I neglected that line. It's another easy fix though if Klok wants me to do it, I'd have to do it on the version without noise/flare though~

The noise makes it look a bit older. It looks good.

Readding the noise takes like, 10 seconds lol. Go ahead and fix that.

I'm considering also adding shadows above the riders or something, since the sun is below them. What think?

Yeah that was what I was thinking, but they're almost a little bit too much. I'll add the flare and stuff in a bit, maybe that'll fix what I'm seeing.

Yeah, the shadows just look awkward there, they should need to go all the way off the page, maybe just extend a little bit.

I just realized, you're missing shadows in between their legs and other areas too, the shadows just magically appear above the main body.

Yeah sorry, that wasn't meant to be a final thing, I did it with my touchpad in class Very Happy I just wanted to see if it's what you had in mind. I'll add shadows to the clouds as well, since, to me, it looks a bit strange that the dragons are the only ones casting shadows.



edit: here, softened the edges, gave their feet shadows and worked a bit more on the clouds so they are casting a bit of shadow as well

Whoa. Now that. Looks like a true FE art. Resize it, maybe fool around with the saturation and color a bit, and I'd never be able to tell it didn't come from an actual FE game.

The second version for sure, Klok. Spokes, while interesting, doesn't seem all that realistic.

Yay edits. Straightened out wyvern tails to make them look less like they're flailing around, separated them from each other a bit, also put glint on the bottom of the arrow in the first version, second version leaves the glint the same. Let me know what you all think, even nitpicky things like the poorly drawn bow that I need to fix

well unlike the other two drawings I did for you (which I would like to make bigger versions of, and fix some anatomy issues when this semester ends), I didn't totally bastardize the .psd version of this, which makes it 100x easier to edit the tiniest things, so I really don't mind changing it up 'til it looks as good as it can 8-D Thanks Klok

if you can get it to work in teh game, will every CG be viewed at 2x?
