Do we really need the FEXP discussion to be an entire group? I think it could be placed as a sub forum in some other place.

No. It gets its own forum because it's still an important part of this site, and also that one guy is making me a save system again.

-Infinite save slots
-Complete with a redesigned main menu
-Easy save/load commands

Etc.

Yep, that was the goal. Why spread out a bunch of forums we hardly use? Now we can see all the new posts easily! Very Happy

I DUN LIKE IT. You could see all the new posts with the previous format, too.

...Although there weren't many, especially in those sections that are now gone.

It'll take some getting used to, but it's really not THAT bad.

I like it, there's less stuff to be overwhelmed by when you're gone for a few days and EVERYONE posted.

Lemme explain something simple about forums, it'll only take a minute.

When you make a board for something, it requires constant posting in it to make it worth having. In the case of a board on this site, for say, a specific game like TRTR, that means most of the posts will be updates to the game, and that would mean the person who's making the game has to provide constant input.

In that case, it's a much different story from a thread dedicated to a game. Threads can be posted in sparsely no problem, but keeping a whole forum updated constantly with meaningful posts can be very taxing. Prime goes to college, and has a fulltime job, and is currently working on BoE with Scion and I. This means that in the case of TRTR, it should be thread based, not forum based.

Even if he was putting his whole heart and soul into TRTR, there has to be a certain amount of interest from other people, AND himself in order to warrant a whole board. Me, I try to keep work going on FEPS, no matter what. (Hence the save system) My board has nearly a full page of topics I've made, while all the other boards had 10 at best, 5 at worst. So until they ask for a board again, I won't re-open one up again.

Also, with only 5 main boards to look at, let's say you see 2 new posts on the forum, each on a different board. This lights up 2/5 boards, making the forum look 40% active. But when there's some 9-11 main boards (Counting the boards only moderators can see also) then 2 new posts lights up 2/11 boards, making us look merely 10% active. And if a board looks inactive, this doesn't encourage people to post.

Hell, dunno if anyone's noticed or not, but we've had over 200 posts in the last 4 days on this forum. That's... that's a lot for us. 200 posts spread over 11 boards doesn't look nearly as active as 200 posts spread over 5 boards though.

Some would say that "looks" don't matter, but they do. Forums and the way they're run are a psychological battle sometimes. I already ranted about how as people post less, other people post less, and this creates a vicious circle. Well if your mind THINKS that people are posting more, this encourages you to actually post more! And the most everyone posts, the more posts there are, creating a healthy circle!

Therefore, this makes the forum look a lot busier, which for our small size is important to promote activity!

I whole-heartedly endorse the new forum look. Nice, compact, and makes sense.

I think having a bunch of topics marked "unread" looks more active than two threads with a zillion new posts. But then again I don't really check a lot of the topics here (like the spam thread)

Doesn't really matter where the posts are going, I'd say a good 60% of the 200 posts or so in the last few days were somewhat intelligent and didn't maqke me suffer any IQ loss, so if they're centered around a couple core threads, w/e.

It's all based on percentages, not how many you REFUSE to read, because what you don't read someone else might. What's NEW and what's been IGNORED are 2 different things. Now, though, it's 1/5 instead of 1/11. 1/5 has a greater value, giving a larger activity appearance.

I understood it, I just hadn't really thought about why a forum that seemed obsolete was kept. I know better now.
