Creative liberties are certainly allowed. I don't totally expect you to make a Summon Night-style weapon with 4 colors and limited space. Not that such a massive point even makes sense. And that spear, I just realized, needs to make an X, somehow. So do what you will.

And by the way, don't focus TOO much on the sword. I mean, yeah, the words are the most important thing (By the way, XIAO should be blue, or at least the flute should) but I don't even know if the sword's going to be important story-wise.

EDIT: Oh, his name is Hal. Based off of Holy Monk. Because it's better than Hol, Hom, Ham, or anything like that. I think.

I kinda like Holm. to make him more bishopy, changed the cape to light blue, and change all the gray/black to white, or vice-versa.

Anyway, i dont know about internet, but i definitely wont have an entire computer with me. I might be able to do some spriting, though.

Background like the fog? I'll do that later. The flute needs work right now, though I can't fix it yet.

Anyway, have you been able to work on the Soldier?
Also, Klauk suggested I double/triple the number of classes in XE, but I wasn't sure how much you'd like that idea... ^-^;

Another idea hit me last night. Why not take every single graphic in the game that you could think of, and remove all the coloring to get a black and white gaming experience? Whenever I watch a movie, I always turn off the colors so that I'm watching it in black and white. (Especially cool in the last Star Trek movie they made.)

Maybe not for use in XE, but in a future game, maybe.

Yeah, definitely not for XE. Say, um... Oh, right! How do you display the minimap?

EDIT: Oh, and I've got some awesome new skills in. Once I get some reinforcements and events up (and a better chapter transition) (EDIT: And a bunch of mugs. I'll try to GIMP them, buuuut...) I'll upload a more actual demo.

I'm not going to make a thread about tiles quite yet because I need to do map sprites, but how's this for a castle tileset?

If you couldn't tell, I spent a number of minutes messing around with the ground's palette. I see a pixel that needs to be changed on the stairs, but meh.
The front-view wall parts are obviously unfinished.

EDIT: Ignore gyazo's lame lack of support for image tags.

Just add .png to the URL

The tileset looks fine. It's 8-bit so I guess it works for this project lol.

I have a question about what I should do for the tilesets in general, though.

I was thinking of making it so that stuff with black outlines would be impassable. Just a way of telling the player and stuff. But then it's a lot harder to sprite stuff like forests. So maybe I should make the defensive squares bushes instead, making trees impassable? Or something along those FE9/10 lines?

Bushes should = trees in FE7.
Trees should = thickets in FE7.
A single mountain should = mountain tile in FE7.
A double mountain should = peak tile in FE7.
The possibilities expand for desert tiles and things of that nature. I can offer more suggestions if you need.

So I should do things on that sort of scale? One thing I was going to make a whole thread for was discussion of, for example, if a house should be 7 tiles wide, a house should be 3 tiles wide, or a village should be 3 tiles wide, etc.

So like, FE10 proportions, FEwhatever close-up proportions, or FEwhatever overworld proportions.
