Yeta had some area events in his TR2, and I was hoping someone Darkblade might be able to explain how area events work for me.

Take the thief AI changer in TR2. It reads as...

($game_map.turn > 23) or $game_map.team_in_area?(18,0,39,5,1)

So what does each number in the "Area" part mean? Any help would be appreciated.

It probably refers to certain co-ordinates of the map itself, when a unit steps on one of those coordinates, the AI changes?

Dude, just reverse engineer it. Look at AI patterns, block off the thief and see potential trigger points, and you may find a square of event-triggering things that change the AI to ___.

I wouldn't count on too many kinds of area events, though *coughdesertitems*

EDIT: Yay, 100 posts in this subforum!

I need it for smart AI swapping so I can make better maps. Same for smart spawning.

I figured that 39 = 39 RIGHT and 18 = 18 DOWN, So the first square is 39, 18.

But then what? 5, 1 or 1, 5? And if that's the case, it's practically the whole map. (Assuming it auto-draws a rectangle to fit.)

Then again the numbers might not be coordinates at all. I have no idea, and that's why I need just a little help.

In other news, I decided to crack down on the team-changing code and figure out what that might be. I'm very close...

I wish I could help, but I haven't used the area eventing before. I'll look into it and see what I can whip up.

It may be a while before I'm able to get back to you on this, though. My parents have decided to go on a cleaning frenzy lately and have been forcing us to clean everything we brush up against. So in other words, I'm extremely busy.
